## What it does

thrift.guide uses AI to analyze photos of secondhand clothing and estimate resale value. Users upload one photo and receive:

- **Price estimate** with low, typical, and high ranges
- **Brand and item identification** (brand, category, color, material, condition)
- **Similar items** currently listed on resale platforms (eBay, Poshmark, Depop, Vinted, Vestiaire Collective, The RealReal, Grailed, ThredUp, Mercari)
- **Product description** ready for listing

## How pricing works

Prices come from a waterfall of sources, in order:
1. Circular ML pricing model (trained on millions of resale transactions)
2. Tings API (Nordic resale marketplace data)
3. LLM estimation as fallback

Results are cross-referenced with live listings found via Brave Search across major resale platforms.

## Brand tiers and base price ranges (USD, Good condition)

thrift.guide classifies brands into five tiers that determine base resale value:

- **Designer** (Chanel, Hermès, Dior, Celine, Loewe, Tom Ford): $400–$2,500
- **Luxury** (Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, Burberry, Versace, Fendi, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Valentino, Givenchy, Moncler): $150–$800
- **Premium** (Acne Studios, Filippa K, Canada Goose, Arc'teryx, Patagonia, The North Face, Nike, Adidas, New Balance, Max Mara, AllSaints, Theory, Sandro, Maje, Tiger of Sweden, Carhartt, Off-White, Stone Island): $75–$200
- **Mid-Range** (COS, & Other Stories, Arket, Ganni, Levi's, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Ted Baker, Reiss, Hugo Boss): $25–$80
- **Fast Fashion** (H&M, Zara, Uniqlo, Primark, ASOS, Mango, Gap, Old Navy): $8–$25

## Condition multipliers

Prices adjust based on condition:
- New with tags: 1.3x (30% premium)
- Like New: 1.1x
- Good: 1.0x (baseline)
- Fair: 0.7x (30% discount)
- Poor: 0.4x (60% discount)

## Category multipliers

Different item types hold value differently relative to the base:
- Bags: 2.0x (hold value best)
- Coats: 1.8x
- Jackets: 1.5x
- Boots: 1.4x
- Sneakers/Blazers: 1.3x
- Dresses: 1.2x
- Sweaters/Cardigans: 1.0x
- Jeans/Pants/Skirts: 0.9x
- Hoodies: 0.8x
- Shorts: 0.6x
- T-shirts: 0.5x (lose value fastest)
